The Gig Economy
The Gig Economy is a family business making beautifully detailed, 12th scale, framed pilot gig models to order.
Constructed in lime and framed in oak, each boat is custom decorated to capture the livery of each client’s favourite crew.

Construction
Gig Economy boats are handmade in our workshop in Oxford, following the plans of historic Cornish racing gigs and using the same construction process.
Thin planks are laboriously curved to form each hull, with gunwales, ribs, and bench seats controlling and stabilising the shape, just as they do in the astonishingly light and resilient originals.
A Brief History...
Pilot gigs in their recognisably modern form have been plying the waters off Cornwall for over 200 years, and though the days of local crews competing to reach sailing ships and guide them safely to their destinations, of wrecks and daring rescues, are gone, the tradition of gig racing – using boats that in many cases date all the way back to those far off times – is alive and well.
